Daryl Hannah in a Tree

Check out Daryl Hannah’s video blog to see why she has been tree sitting for the last two weeks in the middle of South Central Los Angeles. I definitely appreciate what she is doing to save this small urban farm in LA that currently feeds 350 low-income families. It’s a unique concept that is being threatened by urban developers. They are trying to create awareness and raise money so that the farmers can buy the land and continue to farm it. Please check it out at dhlovelife.com.

  1. I think just like the urban farmers should be able to grow anything they want where they want it….
There are thousands of homeless that would love to sleep in your bedroom…..
    Where is your passion…
The land belonged to someone….just like your bedroom belongs to someone.
Get a life, mouchers don’t have the right to tresspass…….get a life and a job.

Growing crops is for land owners…….no one has the right to plant a garden on my land.
I believe in land ownership and so do you, unless it is some rich persons land….then its ok by you to tresspass….

    A big dog…that’s the solution….a very big dog…..

  2. You make a good point, and I would agree with you if this was private land to begin with and the farmers were squatting on it without permission. But this was not the case. This was public land, owned by the city and divided among 350 families to use as a farm in 1992 as a program for low income families.

But the city succumbed to pressure from business interests to sell the land to Libaw-Horowitz Investment Company (LHIC) a private development firm and it’s this sale that I have a problem with. This is a case of public land, owned by the people and provided for the public good, it was then sold to a private entity. Privatization of public assets is a big problem that is happening all across the US and the world, and at some point we need to stand-up and say enough.
